Rain and the unrest

We reached here on 24th June and while onboard, the flight captain announced that the temperature in kashmir is 15 degrees and its also  raining....we landed and were welcomed by heavy down pour...and it has been raining since then day and night...people here have witnessed  recent floods and everybody is tense since the water level in Sangam river has crossed the danger mark and the river Jehlum is rising too....my niece and nephew had been to school yesterday....it was a usual morning when we received a call from the school stating that the nearby Jehlum river is rising and school day has been called off....we rushed off to the schools to get the kids....there was an unrest all around...people were really scared....no body wants to undergo the same ordeal again....on our way back I got a glimpse of the Jehlum...it seemed to be just touching the danger mark!! I also happened to pass through the streets of once happening Rajbagh and Jawahar Nagar areas....that used to be buzzing with life and full of hustle and bustle but now all i could see was ruble and heaps of concrete! ! It was really heart breaking to see such a sight!! Floods here have left a disastrous impact and it will take a while for people to recover from it!!

All we can do for now is to pray for rain to stop and for little sunshine to instill some energy , some warmth in our damp spirits !!

Around here

Trees are trembling, leaves are shivering and thunder resonating while we remain safe indoors.

Today i have this real bad headache....While it rains heavily outside, I hum a soothing tune,  anoint my palms with little warm mustard oil and place them on my temples,  warmth melts something inside me and very silently tears run down my cheeks,  glisten on my lashes....I feel little lighter... little better....throbbing in my head subsides.

I hear Vihaan giggling...he is holding a laddoo loaded with ghee, cashews, and nuts in his right hand... crushing it eagerly....he  is happy.... and I am happy to see him surrounded with joy.

Visit to a Deer park

I had been planning an outing to a nearby local park, It has many of endangered and vulnerable animal species of our state, but due to persistent rainfall we couldn't go out, this park is approximately 30 steps away from our place, located on the foothills of Manda hills...

Today I decided to visit this park , while Vihaan was at home with his grandma, I left home around 4.00 in the evening, clicked few pictures and returned back by 5.00 PM. I enjoyed this little me time and trekking in slight drizzle.

and now I am waiting for a sunny day so that I can take Vihaan along with me, I am sure that he will enjoy being there!!

A picture a day series.

Ever since we landed here in Jammu it has been raining relentlessly, days are gelid and nights are even more algid, leaving no other option but keeping us confined to indoors, Vihaan is little gloomy and edgy, suffering from really bad cold, not been sleeping well. Days are spent indoors all snuggled up in the warm blankets.
In the picture, Vihaan with his paternal grandpa!!

This hour :

It is  7 pm, I m alone.....its quiet inside but outside it's thundering hard, its raining,  freezing winter wind is blowing mercilessly.....I can feel the chill....I peek out of  the window and see the mother pigeon,  sitting cosyly on it's newborns, it worries me as I know it's very cold outside,  I should do something....but what should I do? I throw a piece of cloth at it, I want her to grab this piece of cloth and wrap it round it's newborns....but it moves further away not sensing what I want it to do...it won't understand I say to myself and close the window but I am not at rest, I check again and again but the cloth lies untouched....I look heaven wards and pray to God,  to take best care of the birds,.., it thunders again and this time more loudly....making me more glum....   I retire from the window to my bed, turn on the heater pull of my moccasin socks and sit quietly listening to the beating of raindrops on the window sill...hoping it to stop soon...that's all what I can do for now...
